Job Title: Volunteer: Teacher’s Assistant Intern

Reports to: Support Staff, and the Director of Open Door Learning Center

Education: Teacher’s Assistants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, experience working with preschool children in a group setting and must have received, is in the process of receiving, or be willing to receive classroom training in the education and development of young children.

  • Must relate well to children, have a warm and friendly personality, and be able to work in harmony with other staff members.
  • Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the center’s philosophy.

Certification/License: ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC); VA Speech Language Pathology License (through the VA Department of Health Professions)

Summary: Open Door Learning Center (ODLC) is a new and creative learning campus for children ages 2-7 years.  The center is licensed to serve 46 children, operates a full and part-time preschool program from 8:30am-3:30pm and a half-day preschool program from 9-12pm, and teaches Social Skills Groups from 11:30-3:30pm for children who are rising Kindergarteners (5 years old before October 1st).  We are a caring, educational community, founded in coordination with The Arc of Loudoun.  ODLC’s mission is focused on improving preschool services throughout Loudoun County and kindergarten readiness.  At ODLC, we understand that meaningful instruction given by exceptional teachers is the key to a child’s success.   We carefully select and train the most qualified staff to care for and teach the children.  For our staff, a child’s education should be their passion.  Our dedication to the children in our care differentiates the ODLC experience from that of any other program. We believe that education works best when valid research findings from the fields of education and psychology are consistently applied in the classroom and while exploring through natural environment teaching (NET).   Teaching practices at the school are derived primarily from the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and include positive reinforcement, direct instruction, continuous measurement of learning, and strategic data analysis based on graphic displays.

Reports to: Director of The Aurora School

Education: Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology

Certification/License: ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC); VA Speech Language Pathology License (through the VA Department of Health Professions)

Summary: Programming and delivering SLP goals within each student’s educational and behavioral program.

The Aurora School is a 12-month day program that provides a collaborative and innovative learning environment for students 5-22 years of ages with Autism and other developmental abilities.

Job Title: Occupational Therapist, part time (est. 15-20/hours/week)

Reports to: Director of The Aurora School

Education: Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy

Certification/License: National Board Certified OT; VA Occupational Therapy License (through the VA Department of Health Professions)

Job Title: Preschool/Lead Teacher

Reports to: Support Staff, and the Director of Open Door Learning Center.

Education: Must be 18 years old to apply. A High School Diploma is required along with one of the following:
• Have an endorsement or bachelor’s degree in a child-related field such as but not limited to,
elementary education, nursing, or recreation from a college or university.
• Have three months of programmatic experience and either; A) a one year early childhood certificate from a college or university that consists of at least 30 semester hours; B) a child development credential by an organization listed in the Code of Virginia, or; C) a teacher
diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization.
• Have six months of supervised programmatic experience, and a minimum of 16 hours of training related to care of children including but not limited to: child development,
playground safety, health and safety issues; and preventing and reporting child abuse and neglect.

Job Title: Executive Director (ED)

Reports to: The ED of The Arc of Loudoun is evaluated by and reports directly to the Board of Directors, specifically the President of the Board or his/her designee as assigned by the Board and/or by-laws.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) required; Master’s Degree preferred; a J.D. or experience in legal advocacy is preferred but not required.

Summary: Ultimately responsible for the operations, management, and direction of the organization. The ED of The Arc of Loudoun determines the vision of the organization and is responsible for developing infrastructure, policy, and systems to ensure long-term sustainability and implementation.  The ED of The Arc of Loudoun supervises management staff and allocates resources to support the mission.  The ED of The Arc of Loudoun works with the Board of Directors to develop the organization, support long-term sustainable growth, and ensure sound business practice and policies supportive of the ‘Triple Bottom Line.’
